About
RocketPod is a top-down, 2D shooter in a free-roaming world featuring RPG and trading elements. RocketPod is coded in Java using the Slick gaming library, and the SUI (Simple User Interface) UI. The game is distrubted via Java Webstart, and (hopefully) runs on Windows, Linux and Macintosh operating systems.
RocketPod began in fall of 2007 as an offshoot of an ealier project called "Zaxar," an arcade shooter coded as a school project by Matthew Klingensmith and Broderick Young. RocketPod re-used much of the Zaxar code, but placed the player in an open environment with newtonian physics featuring gravitational fields and collidable objects.
Matthew Klingensmith continued to work on the project through the summer of 2008, and "pitched" it as a project to Carnegie Mellon University's Game Creation Society.Through fall of 2008, the game saw the final stages of its development, and was ready for release.
